In case it's helpful, sharing the recording from Monday's ANC6B meeting, where CM Allen talks about how he has asked DDoT's director for green space as part of that plan. I think reinforcing that (I personally love the idea of a rain garden) from the nearby residents perspective is important (see starting at 1:08 in the recording here<https://dcgovict-my.sharepoint.com/personal/6b_anc_dc_gov/_layouts/15/stream.aspx?id=%2Fpersonal%2F6b%5Fanc%5Fdc%5Fgov%2FDocuments%2FANC6B%2FAgenda%20%26%20Packets%2FMeeting%20Recordings%2F2024%20Recordings%2F04%2D2024%20Apr%208%20ANC%206B%20Meeting%2Emp4&nav=eyJyZWZlcnJhbEluZm8iOnsicmVmZXJyYWxBcHAiOiJPbmVEcml2ZUZvckJ1c2luZXNzIiwicmVmZXJyYWxBcHBQbGF0Zm9ybSI6IldlYiIsInJlZmVycmFsTW9kZSI6InZpZXciLCJyZWZlcnJhbFZpZXciOiJNeUZpbGVzTGlua0NvcHkifX0&ga=1&referrer=StreamWebApp%2EWeb&referrerScenario=AddressBarCopied%2Eview>).

@regina arlotto<mailto:citymom92 at gmail.com> I agree it's been a huge improvement.

A question for your DDOT colleagues (which I've added to Sandra's very helpful document collecting questions) - Are there opportunities in this hardening effort to make some of the surfaces permeable / rain gardens? For example, there's quite a bit of concrete planned on Kentucky south of Indy. Could the center portion of that be a rain garden?

I work for DDOT and don't have data for this project on Kentucky specifically but I do know in other areas where DDOT has done similar interventions (flexposts, hardened medians, etc) speeding tickets from ATE cameras have dropped significantly-like by more than half.

Anecdotally, I love the fact that the flexposts at Kentucky and East Cap really slow cars turning onto Kentucky, so they can see me crossing to get to the park. I live at 123 Kentucky and have noticed that those making the turn onto Kentucky are moving much more slowly than ever before. I am very grateful also for the flexposts and new crosswalk at 13th-I see people and kids using it all the time. I could go on and on about how much I adore the flexposts that prevent people from parking right up against the crosswalk on Kentucky, Indy and 13th because they make me and other pedestrians so much more visible to car drivers. (I wish they'd put some in on the north side of Indy too!) The flexpost buffer also helps me see that ever present distracted driver who is just not paying attention enough to see that even IF they're stopping for the red light, they're about to drive into the crosswalk just as I'm stepping out into the street.

I'm also glad that the design includes closing the gap between the medians on Kentucky. This will prevent reckless drivers from coming the wrong way on 13th at Walter to jump into line on Kentucky traveling north across Indy. I see that at least a couple times a week, and it's super dangerous.

As a"long time resident"(™ pending, LOL) of Kentucky Avenue, I can't wait for the poured concrete hardening where there are currently flexposts. Everyone hates the flexposts I guess (I don't understand this sentiment-it's like any other street element IMO and better than mangled cars or people hit in the street) so YAY we're getting the concrete hardening! We're one of the lucky ones because other places have been waiting longer than we have for the hardening.

Are there any statistics on what effect the pylons are having on traffic in other parts of the neighborhood where they have been installed?

Hi Neighbors,

Just to follow up on this, DDoT engineers will present the plans and answer Qs at the ANC6B Transportation Committee Meeting,
Wednesday, May 8 at 7 pm via Zoom. Link will be posted here: https://anc6b.org/committees-task-forces/transportation-committee/.

I've heard from some neighbors that you may not be able to make it, so if you want to share written comments, please load them here<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1PWGzkGCYhI7ruHuVsM_0SvAcdoPgNnyJ?usp=drive_link> and I'll get them to Matt LaFortune, who chairs the ANC6B Transportation Committee (the DDoT notice is odd in that it doesn't seem to have a digital destination for comments!).

Thanks,
Sandra

Dear neighbors,

DDOT has finally moved forward with the plans to create better and safer crosswalks - and get rid of the plastic pylons - that they'd committed to three years ago when they first put them in. If you recall, this was the project where I was able to add funding into the DDOT budget to make sure what they said was going to be temporary pylons would actually be so. It's part of a larger push to convert many of the temporary pylons into permanent safety improvements rather than leave the pylons in place - something I strongly support. Attached is DDOT's formal notice and public comments are welcome back to them until May 6th. The attachment has all the details and the drawing for their work - and does not appear to remove any existing parking but would make pedestrian crossings in the neighborhood much, much safer. I've also included the plan below. I know I don't have every neighbor's information on here, but I wanted to include several of you that I remember talking and emailing with about this at the time - and please feel free to share with neighbors and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks again,
Charles Allen
