[Lincolnparkdc] FYI -- Future of RFK -- H.R. 4984 - Congressional Markup on NOW

It’s been more than 15 years since the Nats left RFK (27 years for the
commanders). The Nats were the last major team to play a game there. Though
there were some soccer games for a few years thereafter, they were far
smaller. Because it’s been so long since the last game, that means many of
the people who live in the neighborhood these days bought or rented their
home not expecting their neighborhood would be taken over for these events
every fall.

Capitol Hill is uniquely badly suited for a stadium — it is all
neighborhood streets with row homes, there are limited business nearby to
handle the influx of fans (and limited room to add more without rezoning),
and there’s only one metro stop. Navy Yard has the density to support a
stadium; we do not. If the mayor wants the team to move back so badly, she
should put it there. DC should use the site for something the community
actually needs, not a giveaway to a billionaire.
