[Lincolnparkdc] Misplaced Scooters

I am definitely not assuming that all scooter riders are following the
rules, just as I don’t assume car drivers are always following the rules
either. I was only stating what the rules are so people could better
understand why they might be attached to a metal tree box railing. I do
wish more scooter users would ride with more care around people using
sidewalks, and stay in the streets as much as possible. I wish they
wouldn’t sometimes lock to a tree or block a handicapped ramp.

Regarding the “misplaced hubris” criticism, I stand by my comment but I’ll
clarify a little more about what I meant:

We all live in a city, which by definition is a place with a higher
density land use for housing and commercial uses but also with lots of
publicly owed space (roads, parks, sidewalks) which are used by all
residents, travelers, visitors. The public transportation networks
(streets, sidewalks, paths) in a city must be equitably allocated for use
by all travelers. Not just the person who lives directly adjacent to it.
Decisions are made for the greater good of all city residents who may
travel through our corridors. Not just one person or a group of people who
live right there. How far would we get if one person could veto anything
that was planned for the public transportation network in front of their
house?

If you would like definitive control over the space in front of their house
you can find a place where there are *fewer people who also need to use it*.
That’s not to say you might be able to prevent a road widening project
taking some of the right of way in front of your house, just that it’s more
likely it wouldn’t be needed because you live on a large lot with far fewer
people. But also, you’d have your own dedicated place to park at your front
door that no one could take away, would never have to look at scooters in
front, or share a vehicle lane with a bicyclist in a bike lane.
