Neighbors,

See the email answer from the Mayor's office. The operative sentence is the first one:

The protocol is that for those who have register already and they don’t meet the phase 1 or are not in the group of those to be vaccinated at that them that they reregister at the appropriate time.

  best,

 Steve

Good evening Commissioner

The protocol is that for those who have register already and they don’t meet the phase 1 or are not in the group of those to be vaccinated at that them that they reregister at the appropriate time. The tentative timeline, after the p1 group, for vaccination is included below. I hope that this answer your question. If anyone is not in this group and they have registered we are asking them to register accordingly. Please be mindful that these are target and tentative dates.

Week of January 25- Specific categories of essential workers- public safety workers, grocery store workers, workers in PreK-12 educational settings and childcare

Talib,

Thanks for this. I'll look forward to your more detailed reply. Note that it would be important to clarify this situation prior to opening up the vaccine registration for the next category next week.

Failure to do this will put residents who incorrectly registered in the past week into an awkward choice. They won't know whether their first registration is valid and so they'll either not be in the system or will register again just to make sure. In either case, it will further complicate the efficient operation of the system as well as create a lot of angst.

Note, I've had several emails from other residents today who said they registered. My own brother told me last night that he registered. As did my wife.

I see that the website has already been edited. But, now it actually offers a pre-registration for residents who aren't eligible yet.

Putting all this in context and getting it clear to everyone quickly is in all of our best interest.

best,

Steve

Good Morning Commissioner Holtzman

Thank you for your question. Yes, the Mayor did address these concerns and issues during her press conference on January 4, 2020. We have received other emails with similar questions. As the Mayor pointed out our system is designed to appropriately serve those who fit into each individual category of need. As you mentioned there seems to be mention of some who have either pre-registered or are not following the set protocol to register. While we have not received any specific information that this is being done, we do know that people have, and will share the links to register. While this is something that is out of our control, we are asking the public to follow the guidelines in which they can, and should, register. To not do so will cause failure in the way that we administer, track and monitor the way the vaccine is distributed.

While it is understood that many of our neighbors want to have first access to the vaccine, we ask that they follow the appropriate protocol in which to receive the vaccine. It is best to advise your constituents to register at the appropriate time, according to their eligibility status. As far as “re-registering” I will follow up with you on what is best in a way that supports the needs of everyone. I hope that this answers your question for the time being. I hope to have a more definitive answer for you later in the day. Have a good day.

Talib,

I've heard from a lot of constituents in the last several days who got ahold of the website link for the COVID vaccination registration questionnaire and ignored the note that said healthcare workers only at this phase. Or others, who saw the first-come first-serve strategy in Florida and figured they'd put in their registration anyway...just in case.

The problem is that despite the caveats, the site still allowed ineligible people to click on the links, fill out the questionnaire and submit it. It then showed a message which said: "You are eligible for a later phase of vaccination distribution. If you choose, we can keep your registration on file and notify you through email when you are eligible to book your vaccination."

I have no idea how high the numbers are, but I know personally of at least a dozen people in my constituency who fall into this category. But, numbers are, probably, much, much higher than that. The last few days the weblinks were posted on several large neighborhood listservs over here.

Note, that the current questionnaire, designed for health workers, does not ask about co-morbid conditions or details of personal occupation (aside from asking whether you are a health care worker). Since the answers to those two questions are going to define which category a lot of residents fall into, it raises a question of how all these early, assumedly incomplete, registrations are going to be dealt with.

This morning, the Mayor laid out a schedule for registration for different categories of residents with dates when they can/should access the vaccination registration system.

My question is....all these people who filled out the registration prematurely in the past week, will their registration really be inputted, or should I urge them to re-register on the date when their category is eligible?

best,

 Steve
