[Lincolnparkdc] Fwd: Missing package

I can totally empathize with the frustration over late/ missing packages (especially when it’s medicine), but just wanted to pass this along. Our neighbor is a USPS employee and we hadn’t seen him in ages. So a couple weeks ago we saw him in his backyard on a Sunday afternoon and said hello over the fence. He said they are totally swamped at the post office and he’s now working 7 days a week (only takes a half day on Sundays).

John Oliver did a deep dive into the post office this week that I highly recommend giving a watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoL8g0W9gAQ

By all means, call Charles Allen and Eleanor Homes Norton, but also encourage your friends and family who live outside of the district to call their voting members and senators to take another look at the 2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act.

You know with USPO pretty close to going bankrupt if the Gov. doesn’t refund them and with the incredible problems this whole neighborhood has been having with the Post Office for at least two years (if not more) perhaps it’s time to say something to Councilman Charles Allen and Eleanor Holmes Norton. So as someone predicted the package showed up today. Regardless of the fact that the PO said it was specifically left in the mailbox at 7:23 PM last night and the box is considerably larger than the mailbox. So I guess the suggestion that they scan it delivery meet the contract requirements is accurate.

That's if you can get through to the SW office. I never got the package that said it was delivered a couple of weeks ago and the Etsy seller said they can't get through to the post office, so they aren't filing a complaint. So, I"m out the money that I spent on that. Maybe it was stolen or maybe the guy never delivered it, I'll never know.

It's a shame that our USPS service can't be better.

I’m just going to put in my two cents here from my experience with the USPS.

I never try for Sunday deliveries. The Sunday staff, for our house at 1213 East Capitol<https://www.google.com/maps/search/1213+East+Capitol?entry=gmail&source=g> have a 20% delivery rate for Sunday. The USPS staff mark it as delivered for “credit” but leave it at the SW station for our regular carrier to deliver it on Monday. Our former carrier Diana used to tell us they simply don’t want to work and was reprimanded to bringing it up with her supervisor.

When your package is marked as delivered, they are supposed to wait until they are on your block or at your house before marking it as delivered. They use GPS tracking to show where the carrier is when they mark it as delivered. Until I was tagged as someone who complained each time we had a missed delivery, the USPS supervisor would look this up and tell me they where not in my area when they marked it as delivered and would apologize.

This also happens when we have a temp, although they usually make it closer to our house but the USPS rules state they are not to work past 8:30 at night. We have seen the carrier close to home at 8:15 some nights but never get our mail until the next day or when our standard carrier is back. They are told to pack it up and call it a day out of safety and security concerns. I get it and don’t fault them. I do fault them when they do this and are on the 1100 block of East Capitol and they mark our package as delivered when they know they won’t make it to our house that night.

My advice, pick your battles carefully and call the SW office to complain when you are really upset. Otherwise they put you on a do not answer list when it appears on caller ID. I was able to get around this by using my google voice number so I know that’s what they do.
