I also know that the vast majority of black men walking in our neighborhood are not criminals. They are our neighbors, our friends, the friends of our neighbors and friends, etc. <br class=""><br class="">The way to manage this tension, I think, is to focus on actions rather than identities. For example, was this man trying door handles or windows? Did he put on a face mask that covered his features? Did he have a weapon? Was he shouting obscenities, threatening pedestrians, making unwelcome physical contact with anyone? Taking packages from front porches? Or was he simply an unfamiliar black man? <br class=""><br class="">My intent is to be helpful, not accusatory. I recognize that I may have missed something in Mia's email, and I know I wasn't there to see what she did. These are challenging times for crime in our neighborhood, and we are all trying to help each other.
