<div dir="auto">Hi,</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">I’m on the 100 block of Tennessee and greatly miss the East Cap trash can at the corner because it was much easier to dispose of poop there given the overflowing cans in the park. So happy to add another voice to increase public trash cans. I get that it’s annoying when they are in front of your house. I would volunteer it to be in front of mine but that wouldn’t really serve anyone mid block. </div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">I’d also support additional circulator stops on East Capitol to supplement the 90s which are not frequent. </div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">But, while it’s nice to discuss these things, I have seen no issue for which there was contrary feedback offered by neighbors gain success - see eg bike lanes on NC Ave, Tennessee and Kentucky. Consider instead who you vote for in as ANC commissioner. </div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">With respect to asking the NPS to empty the trash more, that’s a nonstarter. NPS is over worked, under funded, and not going to respond to DC residents. That’s simply not how they work. Again, how long did it take to repair the benches in the park? At least 3 years of asking. And those were actual safety issues in the playground. </div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Hannah</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Wed, Sep 14, 2022 at 4:48 PM K M <<a href="mailto:kmorris811@gmail.com">kmorris811@gmail.com</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left-width:1px;border-left-style:solid;padding-left:1ex;border-left-color:rgb(204,204,204)"><div dir="auto"><br>Thanks for being civil.<br><div dir="ltr">Sent from my iPhone</div><div dir="ltr"><br><blockquote type="cite">On Sep 14, 2022, at 2:16 PM, matt arnn <<a href="mailto:mattarnn@outlook.com" target="_blank">mattarnn@outlook.com</a>> wrote:<br><br></blockquote></div><blockquote type="cite"><div dir="ltr">

Conversation re: the circulator seems to be going in a different direction (no pun). Absolutely support additional stops on LP (Kentucky/Tenn Ave) for the Circulator. Great to provide more frequent neighborhood access to and from Union Station. Absolutely do
not support bringing back the LP bus stop litter cans which were used as catch alls for Lincoln Park activities but were not NPS property or NPS maintained. As Gina pointed out, the DPW cans at E Cap/Tenn and E Cap/Kentucky were also popular illegal household
and contractor waste dumping sites, car and tour bus garbage offloads, and primary poop bag drop spots for dog walkers en route to LP. <u style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"></u> <u style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"></u></p>

With regards to the later, DPW notes in its “Doggie Duties” guidance (attached) for responsible pet owners: “Please be kind to your neighbors and avoid putting your bagged poop into a public litter can or your neighbor’s trash container. Not only does it attract
rats, who eat the feces, the contents of the bag can leak out into the can or onto the street, leaving someone else to clean up after your pet.” <u style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"></u> <u style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 8pt;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">
DPW looked at use pattern over an 18 month period and determined that these cans were not being treated as intended. They also noted that easily accessible NPS maintained cans were located just across the street. Rat activity at the cans was also well documented
by DC DOH. <u style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"></u> <u style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"></u></p>

DPW litter cans are not required design amenities or automatic best practices for DDOT bus stops. It’s case by case. There are twice as many bus stops in DC as litter cans. Only 30% of DC bus stops have them. They are located primarily along commercial streets,
zones, and corridors.<u style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"></u> <u style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"></u></p>
