<div dir="ltr"><div>What I'm taking from the 13th/NC and now this 17th/A series is that we haven't made it clear to passers-through that we all just want to take care of each other. One community-oriented option is one of the $20 fluorescent yellow kids with red hats at all the troubled spots we keep identifying in our echo chamber. There are fluorescent yellow dogs too. I find that picking mine up and swinging it when a car is rolling through the 12th/Indy intersection effectively shames at least that oncoming car to stop. I recommend weighing the objects down with gravel or sand or else they walk away. </div><div><br></div><div>Some cities have "crossing flags" at tough intersections with a bucket on either end. I don't like that it puts the onus on the pedestrian to make cars comply, but at least it's very visible, unlike a dog or kid below eye level walking in front of you. They and the yellow guys make clear to passers-through that *we* are paying attention and don't have to cry to the Police or DDOT to keep our streets safe. Just another angle to consider. Does anyone know how we can get a speed camera or stop sign put up at<br>
17th + A SE?<br>

I don't know if any of you walk this way but there is a crosswalk with a<br>
pedestrian sign and 99% of cars blow right through it. If you walked out in<br>
front of them you'd get killed.<br>
<br>
Any ideas what can be done?<br>

Somebody has complained about the same about a year ago and they sent an<br>
officer to check it.<br>
<br>
I was able to talk to that officer (officer Robinson) asking him about<br>
cameras. The officer said: "people in the neighborhood need to start with<br>
311 number. More people call - more probability that the government will<br>
put a camera to control that.<br>
<br>
I used to walk my dog crossing that intersection and completely agree that<br>
there are times when the drivers simply don't notice pedestrians who wait<br>
to cross the street.<br>

Also there is a sign there that says about a fine of $500 for not stoping<br>
in front of the crossing pedestrians doesn't scare them, even though the<br>
actual fine is no more than $250 according to the officer Robinson.<br>
