But who knows if they really will incorporate your ideas? I feel as if I am barking into a wind tunnel. These people had money for an "experiment," and they are going to spend that money, without any input from the community, period. That's what I resented the most last night. </div><div><br></div><div>And here's my main argument: The ddot people (Will and Andrew) said multiple times that there had been a streetcar/trolley car turnaround at 13th and Kentucky, which explained the large space there. I did a little digging this morning and found three old streetcar maps (see below and note that one of them is from a ddot website). I also talked to an expert on DC's early trolley car/streetcar system. The maps show that there were never any turnarounds for any public vehicles at 13th and Kentucky, and the historian agreed, saying, "I checked the maps I have, and I only see the main East Capitol Street line, which turned around the block at 14th/15th, as you note, and which was where the East Capital Car Barn was located as the terminus of the line. I don’t see any line on Kentucky Avenue or any indication that a turnaround was located there. —That doesn’t mean it didn’t exist, but I don’t see any evidence of it." <b>Why did last night's ddot representatives insist that it was true, even when challenged by some of us? </b> If they are willing to make up something like that, why should we believe them about anything else they said at last night's meeting? When asked repeatedly for data, studies, rationale, assessments, even a few facts, the ddot had no answers, no promises. </div><div><br></div><div>Last night, there was no bending of the truth, there was no truth at all, and that is what makes me the angriest. However, I do think we can add bike lanes and cross walks in a smart ways to maintain the aesthetics our neighbors. </div><div><br></div><div>Btw, I think I am not alone is making this recommendation at the top of the street.</div><div><br></div><div>If there’s an alternative recommendation, I am sure they would be open to hearing them. </div><div><br></div><div>Lastly, I know this a passionate topic, but please don’t name call. Let’s please not forget the pylons on Kentucky @ East Capitol were not part of the original design & were added at the suggestion of one resident. DDOT says the advisory bike lanes have proven to slow traffic so adding pylons (& eliminating 20’ of curb space)
is also suspect.
