<div dir="auto">Thanks Paul for this. Unfortunately we're home most of the day and I have found that most of our Amazon packages are delivered by postal service. However, the postal carriers aren't knocking or ringing the bell. They just leave the packages usually before or after the mail. So you have to keep a watch out for them. <div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">I saw something on the news I think that made me think they have stopped knocking in an effort to touch fewer surfaces. </div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">So keep an eye on your Amazon delivery updates.</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Martha</div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Sun, Jun 14, 2020, 12:21 PM Paul Krupa <<a href="mailto:paul.krupa@gmail.com">paul.krupa@gmail.com</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex"><div dir="ltr">Saturday afternoon around 1:30 I was in my kitchen looking out onto Independence and observed a masked (N95-type) man whom I did not recognize enter the gate, pick up a package, observe it, place it in his shopping bag and exit. I went out to my back porch and shouted, "Is that yours" and he said, "yes" and proceeded west on Independence Ave SE.<div>I quickly lost sight of him but got on my bike and went down 12 street looking down the alleys and saw him in the alley between Walter and C streets near the intersection with 13th. I was on 12th and he saw me and began running north. At this time I contacted the police via 911 and gave them the information. They called back but I was not able to provide much detail of his appearance or present whereabouts.</div><div>This is interesting because when I walked the dog in the morning I went through the alley between Independence and C streets where I observed two new packages of Vigilante coffee sitting on a recycle bin where my dog has chosen to pee. I wondered who throws out sealed bags of coffee. Then I saw the "roasted on date" read June 10, just three days earlier. Below the recycle bin was an open Amazon box with a new book in it and a bottle of cocktail mix. Then it dawned on me that these might be items someone who pilfered packages didn't want. I collected the items and returned them to their owners.</div><div><div>I'm reporting all of this as a long winded advisory to my neighbors to not order stuff if you can't be there to pick it up. The police, understandably, never showed and I don't expect them to. And I am not approaching thieves over stuff where someone can get hurt. I never got closer than a full block and never intended to. Just understand that if there is a brown truck on the street or the mailman delivering packages there is often someone following him collecting packages. Use a drop box or other arrangement to reduce the potential for crime.</div><div><br></div>-- <br><div dir="ltr" data-smartmail="gmail_signature">Paul<br>202 255 9008</div></div></div>
