(This has occurred recently.) It’s not because I moderate the list. It’s because of the way you have sent your message, which results in needing my intervention. There are 2 typical cases:

You send your message from an address different from the one with which you are subscribed. In such cases you are effectively posting as a non-subscriber. Non-subscriber postings are trapped by the server and require my intervention to be released. I may not get around to reviewing and releasing such messages for a while, which delays your posting. Or, after review I may just discard the posting because it is then late or repetitive. Solution: only post to the list using the address under which you are subscribed and your posting will magically go through in real time.

You send your message to multiple destinations (typically to other lists to which you are subscribed) using the blind copy, or “bcc” feature of your mail app. This is known as implicit addressing. As above, your message gets trapped by the server and requires my intervention. Solution: do not use bcc when posting to this list. Inconvenient perhaps, but avoids delay of your message.

While I’m at it: there are 367 subscribers to this list from around Capitol Hill. (Watch out Zuck!) I operate the list out of my man cave at my (modest) expense. I am the sole administrator of the list. No one else has access to the server. I have banned would-be subscribers of an overt commercial nature. I have not otherwise turned down requests from anyone to join the list.

When impassioned conversation has occurred it has always been civil.
