<div style="color:black;font: 10pt arial;"><font size="2">Hi All: I am sorry if a lot has already been posted
about this, but I hadn't noticed anything so here goes.
There is an amazing FREE fesitval (you need passes, but they are free)
going on at the Kennedy Center to celebrate their gorgeous new space(s)
called the REACH. I'm riffing here, so please read the K-Center's own
website to learn what they think it's all about <a href="https://cms.kennedy-center.org/festivals/reach/. " target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">https://cms.kennedy-center.org/festivals/reach/. </a>;
Bottom line, it felt to me like the K-Center is working overtime to
make certain that this remarkable memorial to a remarkable president is a
resource not just for the whole world, but also emphatically for the
whole of DC. They also are working hard to focus on children and
youth. It's very impressive. I spent most of the afternoon over there
yesterday and got to watch a chamber music master class, open rehearsal
and saw the NSO performing OUTSIDE with various Broadway stars singing,
among other things, Arielle's song about being Part of This World. I
also dropped in and visited their new "Maker's Space" that has all sorts
of cool multi-media projects and art projects for kids and a fleet of
enthusiastic and friendly young volunteers ready to invite young people
(and even this older person :-) in for some hands on art. I was so
impressed by all the effort that had gone into making the festival
diverse in all the glorious meaning of the word, family-friendly and,
well, just plain fun! For those who think that the Kennedy Center is
only about old school classical music, theater and dance (as wonderful
as all those things are), please go and check out the schedule for the
next few days of the festival which are mostly about Hip Hop, Blues, Rap
and DJs -- with some very cool offerings. <a href="https://cms.kennedy-center.org/festivals/reach/schedule" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">https://cms.kennedy-center.org/festivals/reach/schedule</a>
And families of young kids will be especially intrigued by Sunday's
offerings that feature lots of events for the littlest art fans --
including lots involving Muppets and Mo Willems (though not together
:-) I was wildly impressed. For any in this community who work for the
Kennedy Center, thank you. It was such a treat today to get to peek
behind the scenes as internationally acclaimed pianist, Joseph
Kalichstein taught and then practiced with the young, incredibly
talented and diverse Abeo Quartet. Bravo! Check it out: <a href="https://cms.kennedy-center.org/festivals/reach" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">https://cms.kennedy-center.org/festivals/reach</a> Sarah von der Lippe</font></div>
