<div>Last Tuesday we had our annual heating maintenance check -
all was great. He checked CO levels - it was at 0. We have our
boiler/furnace checked annually - have been here 8 years never had a
problem. On Friday morning, we woke up with no heat. I called our HVAC service company and the technician came out that day. After several diagnostics - he
determined it was the thermostat. He replaced the thermostat in the
house and another one on the boiler. All was good then the furnace went out.
This alerted him to pull out the sheet metal housing above the boiler
out of the exhaust flue. Here he found tons of rubble - disintegrated
terracotta from the lining of the flue, bricks, etc. We still had a 0
rating on CO but he was very concerned that further build up would
block the exhaust and cause a back up. One more earthquake and we would
be toast. <br></div><div><br></div><div>We were able to get a
company out Friday afternoon. He
went up on the roof and saw the disintegration from the top. <br></div><div><br></div><div>It's
interesting that no one had ever brought this to our attention,
especially since we get a yearly maintenance check, but apparently removing the housing from the flue is not routine. <br></div><div><br></div><div>We now have a stainless steel liner in the flue, a new cap on the chimney and peace of mind. <br></div><div><br></div><div>Marcia <br></div><div><br></div>
