I’ve suggested purchasing wheel locks in the past. They are not probably not thief-proof but they may force even an organized gang to look elsewhere, perhaps Potomac, Georgetown or Alexandria, if enough Hill people secure their wheels. The cost is about $25. I’ve ordered a set from Amazon. And, no, I have no idea whether they’ll actually deter thieves but there’s enough of this crime going on that it may help.

Clearly the police are not able to find the thieves in the act and they work fast - they can strip the wheels off a car in less than 10 minutes. A little self-insurance might well be in order.

On Jan 13, 2019, at 7:32 PM, James Grimaldi <jamesvgrimaldi@gmail.com> wrote:

This is clearly a serial problem that DC police are ignoring. There have been at least five of these incidents in recent years -- several near 10th and Mass Ave. Clearly an organized gang. It should be brought to the attention of ANC officials and Councilmember Allen so they can find out why MPD is seemingly unconcerned about these thefts.

On Sun, Jan 13, 2019 at 7:21 PM Phil Drager <phildrager@gmail.com> wrote:

Barbara, we appreciate you checking!

Phil

On Sunday, January 13, 2019, Barbara Meierhoefer <bmeierhoefer@me.com> wrote:

So sorry.
