David-

We had a horrible experience with our street cleaning request as well.

Because the city never completed picking up the leaves last fall, after
instructing us to rake them into the tree boxes, those leaves have
composted and left dirt along the curbs in many streets in our area.

This debris was causing street flooding in the 100 block of 14th Street, so
I put in a request for cleaning. A few days later I was walking our dogs
and saw a caravan headed to the area: one street sweeper in front, two vans
with SEVERAL workers inside, and another street sweeper in back. I was
thrilled. But as I walked back home, here they came heading back towards
Lincoln Park on Mass. They just drove by the mess and didn't even stop.

DPW had not put up "no-parking" signs so the street sweepers could not
clean the gutters, but surely the 6-8 workers could have removed most of
the gunk from them and moved it to the street for the sweepers. Mystifying
why this is so hard.
