I love having that police car parked right where it is. I can't imagine how that car has ANY negative impact on the safety of that crosswalk. It definitely has a positive safety impact on the park, the block and the neighborhood. Like crossing whereever there are cars and traffic, you just need to look before you enter the road.

I’m pretty sure the police car is the one the officer who recently moved into the neighborhood uses. I haven’t met him yet but I think that is just him parking the car while off duty. He lives one or two houses east of Kentucky on east Cap.

Thanks for sharing this, Jess. I have the same concerns, particularly about the police car parked by the crosswalk. There is never anyone in that police car, which is particularly odd to me (although, I appreciate that its presence may generally serve as a deterrent). Just as it's hard to see around this car to safely cross and for cars to see pedestrians, it similarly is difficult to see around legally parked cars at the crosswalk further north on East Cap SE. The legal parking just comes too close to the crosswalk for pedestrians and drivers to be able to see.

Speaking to the officer in the vehicle directly might be the most efficient way. Dealing with CM Allen's office, particularly his community representative Kimberly proves a black hole.

Hi All,
I am writing with concern about the safety of the crosswalks across East Capitol Street into Lincoln Park. In the winter months when it is dark early safely crossing this busy street with my young children is very difficult.
I can't be the first person to have this concern and would love to know the history of any prior attempts and how I can best advocate. I have written to Charles Allen but would love other suggestions.
I have one easy request -- to get the police to stop parking a car on the western side of the crosswalk near Kentucky Ave. I assume they are doing this as a speeding/crime deterrent however the result is that traffic can't see you around the car when you want to cross.
I would also love to see: bright streetlights at the cross walks, a button with flashers for pedestrians to activate, stop signs, and speed bumps to slow drivers.
Thanks,
Jess Davis
