[Lincolnparkdc] Metro Proposing to Eliminate 96 Bus

As a resident with a 96 stop in front of his/her house (1206 East Capitol St. NE) I am on record (on this listserve, and previous DDOT surveys) as supporting the D6 and expansion/frequency of its service around Lincoln Park. I will be providing comments on this most recent "decision" as well.
Please do not confuse my lack of support for the accompanying trash can (emptied far too infrequently compared to LP cans but serving the same demographic) with the bus stop. My family are regular riders of the 96, as well as the D6, and have voiced/will support for expanding that service as well.

I encourage everyone to follow the link and put in your comments. There is a survey and also a way to click on the map and comment on specific routes or removal of routes.

Thanks for the alert on this. The 96 gets folks to Tenley. D6 to Sibley.
1. Would they add buses to the D6 route?
2. Was this a request to ANCs for issues of better mobility or…?
3.The 96 travels around the park. Did a resident request that there no longer be a bus route in front of his or her home? Seems a route around the park would be a good central stop, and I understand (second hand info.) that a resident has wanted the 96 bus stop moved from in front of his house for a while. Why decrease buses around a public park but increase them on streets that are entirely residential?
I use the 96 and D6 frequently. Both routes are valuable options across town.

As part of Metro's "Better Bus" initiative, Metro would eliminate the 96 route starting in 2025. Those of us around Lincoln Park would be left with just the D6 (to be relabeled the D24) for public transportation to Union Station. In addition to being slow and too far north, the D6 (new D24) would also be extended east of the river, which would worsen the existing overcrowding the D6 experiences during rush hour.
