Neighbors:
Today I saw this news item in Axios about a new campaign to recall Councilmember Charles Allen.  The organizers are frustrated with Allen's record on crime.

A recall election has never been held before for a D.C. Council member.

Curious, I wrote to the campaign's leader, Jennifer Squires (whom I do not know) for more information.  Here's what she said:
We’re getting our ducks in a row right now; our next steps will be fundraising and signature gathering. Here’s the verbiage from our press release this afternoon:
“Crime has become a real issue in the District with lasting consequences. As a mother whose children used to walk to school daily across Capitol Hill it’s really frightening.  A growing group of us watched as our Councilman, someone I voted for, systematically did the exact opposite things he should be doing to keep us safe.  Charles Allen’s actions as Chairman of the Judiciary and Public Safety Committee to open the jail doors for violent offenders while slashing the police department budget is having real consequences.   We are now seeing the results of his failed leadership and misguided policies.”

This movement is still in its infancy but it is growing fast. We will have more details shortly. To become involved with our effort you can reach us at: info at recallcharlesallen.com
I am not affiliated with this campaign and imagine it will have some supporters and some detractors.  I am sharing information about it because it is obviously relevant to our neighborhood and I expect we will be hearing more soon.
As many of you know, I helped to host a conversation last year at Mott's with Allen about the steep rise in crime, and remain frustrated that the problem is still acute.
If anyone learns/knows more about the campaign, please share.
