Paula,

Thanks for your message.

I have not visited Colburn since his birthday. When I go I will definitely try to reach you and Greg, in the hope he and Colburn can have a conversation.

I think Colburn is doing alright, although i know when Doug and Debbie visited recently he wanted them to leave after a short time and was explicit that it was time for them to go! I thought maybe they’d had him try on the new pants they’d brought, but no.

When I reached Greg the time Colburn and he had such a good conversation, I did not ask I just rung Greg and handed Colburn the phone. Generally, I think when he is given an option for anything, he says no.

Perhaps this is a way he maintains some say - an effort to control his circumstances.

The good part is, I think, he is well liked and cared for by the staff. And I think the routine he’s accustomed to gives him a sense of place and security.

Carolyn sees him for short periods of time most days. She sees he has extra beverages and snacks and sees to his every need. Her sister has Azheimer’s and has declined rapidly and so there is great stress on her certainly, both caring for Colburn and from afar her sister, interspersed with trips to Canada.

For a while Colburn was suffering with an infection that affected his ability to walk. I think he has recovered from that, but his memory is very bad. I doubt he recalls having seen us minutes after we are gone. He was able to read my name tag when I was there May 2 and exclaimed about my name, although I’m not certain he associated me in person with being able to speak my name.

I’m delighted you and Greg are going out for the evening. It sounds great.

Tell Greg hello. I hope another conversation between Greg and Colburn will be possible. I’m not sure, but worth a try. Many tries.

Best,

Beth

I chased him all the way home and a neighbor said he turned down towards barracks row. And then the marines stationed there said they saw him sprint by. But that’s the last sighting other than a possibility of a blackish dog running across the Pennsylvania bridge into anacostia but that just seems insane to me"

> Hi, pardon the wide (and sad) email but a good friend's dog went missing late last night near Barracks Row in Southeast. Sharing this in case any of you live in that area and happen to see this good boy wandering around the neighborhood. In the event that you do, please reach out and I can connect you to the owner who will be tremendously grateful. Thank you!
