Neighbors,

Passing this along from the SMD "next door", since it includes a ton of topical information.

In addition, if like me, you are tracking the DC Budget (I'm bemoaning the 200+ staffing cuts across schools), the ward 6 budget town hall is Monday: https://www.charlesallenward6.com/2024_ward_6_budget_town_hall

I'll also put a plug in for Bike and Roll to School Day, which takes place on May 8. I will sadly be traveling for work, so am hoping some kind-hearted lincoln park neighbors are willing to help schlep tables and supplies early morning. It is so much fun - the Eastern HS Marching Band and 4 student groups will perform! LMK if morning joy is your jam, I will loop you in! https://w6pspo.org/2024/04/21/bike-and-roll-to-school-day-is-may-8-time-to-register/

DC Information
     *
CameraConnect DC Program: This week, Mayor Muriel Bowser launched the new "Real-Time Crime Center" and has begun calling on the community to support the center through the CameraConnect DC<https://mpdc.dc.gov/cameraconnectdc> program. Through CameraConnect DC, residents with doorbell or CCTV cameras can register their cameras with MPD. Once registered, if a crime occurs near that camera, the Real-Time Crime Center will send an alert requesting any relevant footage that could help MPD’s investigators. Businesses, apartment complexes, and commercial facilities have the option to fully integrate their footage with the Real-Time Crime Center, providing MPD instant access to camera footage should a threat or incident occur nearby. If you have a security camera and are interested in this program or want to read more, follow the link provided here<https://mpdc.dc.gov/cameraconnectdc>.

     *
Decoding Paint Markings: I recently was copied to a few email messages discussing what the various colored-paint markings mean on the sidewalk, and which color is associated with what DC agencies. Last Spring, I met with DC Water and learned the following:
           *
Red = Pepco
           *
Yellow = Gas
           *
Blue = Water
           *
Green = Sewer
           *
[cid:9a6e2295-99f2-493c-b432-7bde62840786]
        *
Though they can be an eyesore, these markings are essential to utility companies. As DC Water explained, the paint markings are a roadmap for utility companies who may be planning or doing work in the area. They ensure other lines and utilities are not disrupted, and the markings are not permanent - they “wash away” over time.

        *
Looking for the right POC for work in your area? Always feel free to ask me, or try directly consulting with the following contacts which have contacted ANCs with updates (FYSA - I am aware of the River Rock Court planned work and am awaiting an update).

Red = Pepco

ALSO: PHONE: To report power outages and downed wires, call 877-PEPCO-62 (877-737-2662); ONLINE: Go to pepco.com/Outages to report an outage quickly and get the latest news, access outage maps of your area, get estimates for when power will be restored, and enroll to receive outage alerts and updates; TEXT: Text “OUT” to 48710 to report an outage. You must first text “ADD OUTAGE” to 48710 to sign up for the service.
           *

     *
RFK Campus Contact: "This year, Events DC has established a direct phone line for the community to call about their concerns - from traffic to trash, this number will be staffed from 1 hour before doors open to 1 hour after doors close each day of the outdoor festivals.
