Neighbors,

We had a great walk last Friday night from 1000 to ~1130. Roughly 15 neighbors participated and we were joined by Sgt. Fultz from the 1st District. We had great interaction with MPD (and I firmly believe that the more we do, the more effort they put in) and I'm PRETTY SURE that the group scared off some ne'er do wellers at 15th and Mass Ave...hard to say for certain but certainly felt like it (and good eye Ryan K!).

We were also joined by one of the original founders of the Orange Hats, John Capozzi. John gave us some good historical insight and validated some of the protocols we developed. He also spoke of the impact of the Orange Hats--that ultimately, criminals move elsewhere when they know the community is watching for them.

We are going to try and sustain the effort every Wednesday and Friday night (to begin with), from 1000 to ~1130. I've created a signup form on signup genius to help organize things: Eyes on Lincoln<https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C094EADAD22A1FB6-45780324-lincoln>.

We have a few protocols that we developed to ensure the safety of the group. Here are a few:

1. Walk with 5 or more people
2. Seek MPD involvement for all walks
3. Objective of the group is to: a) Deter/Prevent b) Observe/Report and c) Intercede only if necessary

I personally will not be able to participate in this Friday or next Wednesday's walk due to a previously planned trip, but will rejoin on the 10th. I hope that we can gain and sustain momentum, and ultimately expand the effort to additional days.

Thanks again to the folks that participated last Friday: Ryan, Eric & Brett, Mia, Chris & Steve, Gabriella & Josh, Sandra & Floyd, Mark, Ben, the Capozzis and of course Sgt. Fultz. Love you neighbors!

Stay safe neighbors and contact me directly if you have any thoughts or concerns.

Best,

Brian
