Carjackings are reported as robberies on crime cards. They are also

A robbery involves use of force or the threat of force (as opposed to
theft, which doesn’t involve force).

Stolen auto *usually* means it was a theft— often of a car unoccupied at
the time it was taken — that stat is higher lately in DC and in most major
US cities due to the “Kia challenge” —a social media trend that popularized
the easy way thieves could take certain model kias and Hyundais.

Stolen Kias and Hyundais account for the bulk of an extreme increase in
stolen (unoccupied) autos over the last year or two nationwide
