[Lincolnparkdc] Disposing of (Many) Old Books

 SE Public Library used to hold regular book sales. Arlington Central Library (Ballston) has huge book sales and storage space, so they probably don’t toss books there.

If it’s walking distance on Hill and you want us to take small batches to little free libraries, tell us when and where and you’d probably get volunteers to come by and redistribute.

Agree with what Jan said.   I would be happy to take a portion of the books to distribute to the Little Free Libraries.

I disposed of ~2000 books from my parents' library across the 50+ little free libraries that cover the Hill.  If you need help with your book disposal project let me know. I am happy to help because I suspect if you try to get rid of your books through used bookshops or the library they will just be tossed.

The used book shop at Eastern Mkt will take titles that are resell-able, and even pay a little bit. Otherwise donate to any DC public library- they generally hold for their periodic culling sales and use the proceeds to support library programs. After that, unfortunately, unsold books get pulped. There’s also the option of giving to the Salvation Army or a retirement home. If you have special sub-collections, there are other options. I gave my naval history and navigation books e.g. to a local NROTC unit and my Russian language books to a college student majoring in Russian. Good luck- I feel your pain!

Any suggestions on where to dispose of old (but still readable) books?  I don't even know if used bookstores take them anymore.  I don't need to get paid for any of the books.  The bibliophile in my just can't stand to put a bunch of books in the trash (or even the recycling).

 

I am aware of the neat little free library stands posted on various streets, and I can put a few in those libraries, but I have more books I need to get rid of than those libraries can hold.
