I am sharing information about a relevant and timely webinar conversation
around trans students in higher education that will be taking place on
Wednesday, May 3rd, from 3:00pm - 4:00pm ET / 12:00pm - 1:00pm PT. The
event is co-hosted by The Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law
<https://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/>, a non profit LGBTQIA+ think tank
in Los Angeles where I serve as a Board Member.



The Williams Institute conducts independent research on sexual orientation
and gender identity law and public policy and ensures that facts—not
stereotypes—inform laws, policies, and judicial decisions that affect the
LGBTQIA+ community. Attached are brief one-pagers that talk more about The
Williams Institute’s background and impact over the past two decades.

Colleges that embrace diversity and equity as educational values have a
responsibility to buffer students from threats to their safety, protect
their privacy, and ensure that students can focus on learning. Yet,
currently, transgender students are facing multi-prong attacks from state
legislatures, social media, and hate groups. Restrictions on access to
gender-affirming care and sports participation, refusal of faculty to use
gender-affirming pronouns, and threats against trans people in public
gathering spaces generate stress and divert student energy away from their
studies. Join us for a discussion on what schools can do to affirm and
support trans students in this volatile climate.
