[Lincolnparkdc] Donate an Old Laptop and Related Equipment – and Change a Life

A wonderful, retired Federal prosecutor has been providingrefurbished computers to “Good Neighbors of Capitol Hill” (GNCH*) and groupsthat work with refugee and underserved communities. Each computer goesthrough a process that includes wiping all data.  Refurbished computersare then donated to help those in need, such as refugee families.  Thesecomputers help the recipients become self-sustaining – using them to improvetheir English via Zoom/online classes and to search for and apply forjobs.  

The “Old Laptops for Good Causes, Not Landfills” Project doesthree things:

·       It can change lives

·       It helps keep these items out of landfills; and

·       As Marie Kondo might say, it provides the donor with the “Joy ofDecluttering.”

Here's the "wish list" for the project:

·       All laptops (Macbooks, Windows) -- evenif the battery is dead or the power cord/ and Laptop adapteris missing

·       iMac Desktops (Apple)

·       USB (wired) keyboards

·       USB (wired) mice
   
   - Laptop and MacBook power adapters/cords 

·       Webcams

·       Headsets

·       Computer carrying bags

 * GoodNeighbors of Capitol Hill is a coalition of 8 Capitol Hillcongregations and unaffiliated volunteers working with licensed socialservice agencies to support refugee families, many of whose heads ofhousehold worked for the US government and its contractors inAfghanistan.  As of March 2023, GNCH has assisted 105 families withstart-up housing, furniture, food and other essentials. GNCH operates under the501(c)(3) sponsorship of LutheranChurch of the Reformation.
