   I hear you.

Residents on Kentucky Ave. will remember that I sent them a similar notice about an impending DC Water shutoff to them last month only to find out later that DC Water only needed to shut off water (daytime) to the eastern side of the street and left the western side alone. In that case, DCWATER did, somewhere internally, know which exact addresses they were going to impact, they just didn't include that kind of detail in notices to affected ANC commissioners.

For after-hours work, as is the case here, they need ANC commissioners representing affected residents to sign off and give a clearance before they can schedule the work. Based on the experience last month, I noted to DC WATER that I could only give them that sign-off if they first gave me the specific addresses affected and the hours they'd be affected. Hence the exact list of addresses I posted. I also wanted the exact date. But, they said they couldn't set this until after they got their permit.  They told me they'd have a date, hopefully this weekend.

As to the hours of work, their answer was that the kind of shutoff they need, if done in daytime, would have forced the dry cleaner to close business for a day. There may have been other reasons as well. In re the number of hours and the starting time, I don't know. Based on past experience, they sometimes give themselves a margin of error by announcing longer shutoff hours than they actually need, and hopefully that will be the case here. Still, better to assume the period of hours that they have announced and plan accordingly.

And, yes, there have been situations where they have announced work for a specific day and time period and then end up having to postpone it. I don't have any control over that. But, in our ANC6B clearance, we've stipulated that DC Water notify residents and the ANC if there are any changes in the households affected or in the announced date and timings of the shutoff. Ideally, affected households should get individual notices. Them telling me is more like a failsafe in case that doesn't work.  And, If I get that kind of notice, I'll send something out to everyone immediately.

(fyi, You're mapped into ANC6b08 which is also the case for about 75% of the potentially affected households in this case. As I noted, the seat is vacant until after the Nov. election,so, in the interim, as the commissioner for the adjoining district, I'm trying to do what I can to cover you guys as well.).

Steve, thanks for the heads up about this.
We had a DC Water door hanger a few weeks ago saying they were shutting off water the next day from 7 pm to 7 am.
We rushed out and bought enough bottled water to cook dinner, flush the toilets, fill the dog dishes, etc. -- and then it didn't happen.

Does anyone know why this starts so early in the evening? And why do they need so long?
Could they not start at 10 or 11 pm when many people are getting ready for sleep?
