[Lincolnparkdc] Noise level coming from RFK concert

Hey Tim,
I don't mind you disagreeing with me, but it is really uncool for you to suggest that my family move to Loudon County.
We are all neighbors, and no matter how much we might disagree with each other, we all belong here. It would be great if we could contribute to this forum with that in mind.
This doesn't mean that you have to care (or even believe me) when I say that my friend with Alzheimer's was scared today, or that many of us couldn't put our kids to bed, or that my students had a harder time studying for AP exams, or that a neighbor with a bad case of COVID had a hard time getting rest. It would be nice if you could work to appreciate these concerns, but I'm not entitled to that kind of empathy, and I recognize that there are good arguments for keeping the music festival as is. It does mean, however, that you and I both deserve to feel welcome here, even when we disagree.

This is the second weekend where the decibel level is so high that the sound and the vibration from the base beat is inside my house and inside my head. Even with ear plugs, I find the noise intrusive when it makes it difficult to focus on reading or writing when I'm trying to get something done.

>> Thank you, Jessie, but regardless of their mission or whatever weather condition, their sound is far exceeding their audience and an acceptable noise level for a residential area. The noise reverberates off the buildings and it's been pounding inside my house and my head so that for hours I can't focus to work. The city needs to regulate maximum acceptable decibel levels and monitor it for such events as well as cut-off times. And, as awful as it's been today, we're going to be subjected to this again tomorrow, unfortunately.

>> RFK has a lot of empty space, and some of it has been transformed into "Festival Grounds" for various events, which I think is kind of cool because, well, it's pretty much unused. During COVID of 2020 (or was it 2021?--who knows?!) there was a huge open-air drive-in theater there, and even a bunch of moving, roaring dinosaurs that families could drive through and experience. Granted, those weren't so loud. But I think the Broccoli City Festival is also kind of cool. It describes itself online as "a Black owned social enterprise . . . ?that focuses on people and progress. We foster creative and community growth by building innovative experiences that intersect music, art and social impact." Their mission is to "mobilize our community to celebrate and advance Black culture and communities."
>> After the loud music last weekend, Capitol Weather Gang's Matthew Cappucci noted: "Why did so many people far and wide hear the sound of the concert at RFK stadium? An inversion. Surface cooled off, warm air was left above, and that acted like a ceiling for the lower atmosphere. Sound bounced and traveled." Given the heavy weather today, that may be contributing. At the same time, lots of people celebrating in a space that is otherwise abandoned and empty can be, as I said, kind of cool.
>> DCist also reports that given the loud music last weekend bouncing and traveling around Capitol Hill, the Broccoli Festival will end at 10 p.m. tonight.
