Dear LP and 6A04 Neighbors,
Please see the below update on happenings in Kingsman Dog Park, owned and managed by DPR and located in the 1300 block of D NE—a short walk from LP.
The Friends group, with support from our Commission, successfully advocated for $1.25M in funding to repair and upgrade the park. Thanks to CM Allen for securing the funds in the FY23 budget.
Not sure how to reach the dog park? From LP head north on 13th, right on D and enter the sidewalk between the baseball dugout and 1332 D NE. The adjacent athletic fields are dog-free and DPR is enforcing with rangers—so please keep pups off the field.
Please contact capitolhillhounds at gmail.com
to get involved in the group and help make our neighborhood’s official off-leash dog park an enjoyable place for all of our four-legged friends.
Best,
Amber

> Hello friends of Kingsman Field dog park,
>
> Sorry that we haven't sent an update in a few weeks. There's been a lot of great work going on and we're excited to share some exciting news and updates with you!
>
> We're so excited to announce that improvements to Kingsman Dog Park are finally coming! CM Charles Allen has secured funding of $1.25 million to renovate and rebuild the dog park and the adjacent basketball court to better serve the community. Improvements to the dog park will include regrading, new ground cover material, new fencing and signage. We've been told a likely construction timeline will happen at some point during calendar year 2023, with some community engagement on the planning and design portion in the fall of 2022 or winter of 2023.
> Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback through the survey or conversations at the dog park. Your input was extremely helpful and your enthusiasm for this effort helped us make a strong case to CM Allen and DPR. A special thank you to our neighbors who have been strong advocates and allies for this effort, especially our awesome ANC Commissioners Gove and Gentile! We're super excited about this development and we will keep you posted on next steps, including community engagement and input opportunities, as soon as we have more details from the city.
> Thanks to contributions from several community members, we've been able to purchase some start up supplies to help us begin to clean, improve, and maintain the park. In addition to necessary cleaning supplies and sanitizer spray, we recently added a new doggie first aid kit. The kit includes things like bandages, gauze, tape, saline, antibiotic ointment, tick remover, and more. The kit also has a first aid manual, and we are working on scheduling a training with a certified expert to talk us through how to use it. If you need to use the kit, it is located in the storage shed on the little dog side -- please use caution when opening the shed doors as they are broken and currently held in place by a bungee cord (we're working on a replacement). If you do use something from the kit, please let us know, so we know when replenishments are needed.
> We plan to host another dog park clean up on Saturday, May 21 from 10 - 12 p.m. This clean up will be focused on trimming trees, weeding, removing dead morning glory, and trash pick up. We'll circulate more details shortly.
> We've heard from several neighbors that this Google group isn't working as well for you, so we will be migrating these updates to mailchimp. This will be the final update message sent using google groups, though we will keep the group active for a little longer.
> Finally, we've been working on filling out our steering committee with an awesome group of neighbors who will contribute to start up planning and implementation as we work to rebuild the Hill Hounds group to support the park improvement project and regular upkeep and maintenance of the dog park. Be on the lookout for a campaign to introduce you to all of our steering committee members soon.
> Unfortunately, we're still waiting on an update from the city regarding the water situation. We have pinged them several times and are awaiting a response. In the meantime, we have purchased a few gallon bottles of water and will bring them to the park every few days. We recommend you keep bringing your own water until we have confirmation that the water has been turned back on.
