[Lincolnparkdc] Does anyone know how the final tally of how many parking spaces were lost when the bike lanes were installed on the south side of Lincoln Park?

It is neither the installation of bike lanes nor pedestrian safety pylons
that are the cause of removing parking spaces. Rather, it is newer safety
standards that did not exist the last time the configuration of the street
was evaluated. Many of the streets around capitol hill have not been
changed in decades. Things like required setbacks for crosswalks and
sitelines at intersections have changed in that time to make our roads
safer. Any update to our streets requires updating it to match the current
standards, just like renovating a house requires it to be updated to match
modern building codes for the occupants' safety. While exceptions exist
for projects that explicitly remove parking lanes all together, parking
spaces are generally removed due to those safety updates. The other
measures you mention are to further separate pedestrian, cycle, and vehicle
traffic, and are distinct from reevaluating areas where parking has
formerly been allowed (or technically not allowed but tolerated in some
cases) that violate current safety standards for both vehicles and
non-vehicles. Often, these fixes actually help prevent accidents at
intersections where drivers aren't able to see around parked vehicles.
