[Lincolnparkdc] lincolnparkdc Digest, Vol 36, Issue 24

Thank you for sharing. I now have a different picture of what happened. I had assumed the car was going east on East Cap and turning right onto Kentucky. This is usually the hazard at this intersection and why some of my neighbors lobbied for pylons at this intersection.
Rather in this case the car was apparently going NNW on Kentucky and the bicyclist westbound in the eastbound lanes of East Cap. Usually cars going NNW in this block of Kentucky are very local or somewhat lost as it makes more sense to just proceed north on 13th. I’ve been here almost half a century and I’ve never noticed cars deliberately going up Kentucky to try and get around the light at Mass.
So I agree with Chris that both parties were probably at fault. Also Regina that drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians need to be “aware and engaged.” As a driver, I was trained to drive defensively. Bicyclists and pedestrians need to trained and educated to do the same.
