Hi neighbors,

Many of you experienced or volunteered for the In America instillation by RFK. See a note from the artist below if you are interested in the mall exhibit.

In mid-September, over 640,000 white flags will flutter on the National Mall, honoring each person whom we have lost to COVID-19. The In America: Remember art exhibition will open on Friday, September 17th and end at sunset on October 3rd.

The enormous loss of life caused by this pandemic will render this the largest public participatory art exhibition on the National Mall since the AIDS quilt and the first of this scale to be presented concurrently in the digital sphere. People across the country who will be unable to experience the art in person, may dedicate a flag to a loved one lost to COVID-19 by going on the website InAmericaFlags.org and completing a request. Visitors to the art will be welcome to dedicate flags for their loved ones who have died or to inscribe flags from digital requests, kindly writing flags for families that could not attend.

Volunteers will be essential to this immense undertaking. The most critical need is for volunteers who are experienced in working with the public to work at the reception tables. While Ruppert Landscape will graciously donate manhours for the initial planting of flags, every day we will be adding flags to represent the mounting toll and scribing and planting flags from website requests. We have a particular need for volunteers to help gather flags after the exhibition closes. Those volunteers are needed for October 4th, 5th and 6th.

Any help at any time will be most valuable. I welcome all to play a special role in this historic art event. Volunteers can sign up through the website noted above or directly through this link, where detailed descriptions of volunteer roles are provided.

Thank you for considering this opportunity! Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg
