[Lincolnparkdc] Mail today?

I would like to point out that the delays we are having with mail delivery
are NOT because the mail carriers are lazy or delivering mail when they
feel like it. *It has been widely reported* that Louis DeJoy's efforts to
make USPS more "sustainable" as a *business* have decimated the usual
prompt delivery of mail. Plus many postal workers have been out with Covid,
because we are still in the middle of a pandemic.

Of course, the USPS is not a business, it is a service, just like public
safety, and public education, and it should not be expected to run as a
profitable business. Interestingly, before becoming postmaster general in
June 2020, Louis DeJoy ran a shipping business and later a company that got
a huge contract from the USPS. I'm sure he thinks only in terms of private
businesses that need to turn a profit.

And DeJoy is not done with his "streamlining and efficiencies" of USPS yet.
He announced plans at the end of March 2021 to cut hours at post offices,
higher postal prices, and yep, even more delays for first class mail. He
claims to be focusing on improving package delivery, and not so much on
first class mail, because so many more people are using email. But
improving package delivery will come with a cost: a 9% increase for
packages is imminent.

So next time you get some mail, thank the carrier, and maybe give him a
bottle of water. I think they are working double time to get the mail to
us, even some people think they are delaying it on purpose
