[Lincolnparkdc] Electrician for Homeless

Are you sure it is an electrical problem and not a problem with the gas motor that runs the generator?

The reaction to this and the willingness of folks to help out has been so heartening; thank you all.
In addition to everyone’s generous offers of help, my church parish, St. Monica St. James Episcopal Church on 8th Street, has also offered to pitch in.
If folks would like to donate by Venmo, my handle is @zach-williams-25 (you’ll see a picture of my beagle, Annie).
Per Martha’s suggestion, I called Wilcox Electric this morning and am going to head down to 11th and 395 this morning to get some pictures to provide them about the generator, to see if it can be fixed and for how much. I’ll report back to the group.

The group of gentleman who are experiencing homelessness and who are currently residing under the 395 bridge on 11th street told me today that they need a repair on their generator.  Apparently the starter cord and the housing surrounding the cord are broken and need to be fixed.

A couple questions:

(A) Does anyone have a good recommendation for an electrician who is able to fix a generator?

(B) Would anyone be interested in pooling donations to fund this fix for these gentlemen?

I would try Wilcox Electric and see if they can do it. I'd be willing to
chip in.

Subject: [Lincolnparkdc] Bell ringing after inaugural oath

Hi, passing along a great idea for Wednesday.   ......please share.

Greetings all,

Passing along this idea for Wednesday:

*** PLEASE SHARE ? BELL RINGING AFTER INAUGURAL OATH COMPLETED *** I awoke
just now with an idea in my head I feel compelled to share, in hopes we
residents of DC can make our ?voices? heard on Inauguration Day, expressing
hope and joy for both our community and the nation.

As a result of the deadly assault on the Capitol on January 6, our
beautiful city is currently a fortress, with both it and our country held
captive by a deadly pandemic and searing social and political divisions.

Fortunately, in accordance with our Constitution, a new president will be
sworn in on January 20, 2021, offering our nation an opportunity for
healing. However, crowds that would normally stream onto the mall to
witness and celebrate that important moment will be held at bay, prevented
for security and health reasons from partaking in one of the most enduring
and prominent rites in our democracy.

What I envision is at the moment Joe Biden completes the oath of office
that we ? the residents, churches and institutions of the nation?s capital
? collectively raise our voices loudly enough to usher in the occasion with
the celebratory spirit it deserves. Bells, musical instruments, even pots
and pans can create a beautiful cacophony of sound strong enough to waft
across the city and onto the National Mall and Capitol Hill, as well as
into the homes of viewers across the land.

Four full minutes of joyous music should ring in the new presidency, wiping
away the old and signaling a new direction for our nation.

How can you help?

-- First, spread the word! January 20 is only four days away. Please share
this idea with friends, family, neighbors, your church or synagogue and
community groups. Post on social media and through neighborhood message
boards. Ask local media to share the idea.

-- Secondly, do your part! Be ready to make some (good) noise! Find a bell,
dust off an old musical instrument, gather your family, and be ready to
sound off the moment the oath concludes.

Let?s do this! Together, working together in a spirit of community, we can
give our county a beautiful gift to mark the Inauguration of the 46th
President of the United States on January 20, 2021.

Best,
Edith Shine
