Neighbors:

As the nearest thing to a moderator of this list I very rarely step in to moderate. I think this may be only the 2nd or 3rd time in the span of more than 15 years. This is one of those times. (For those of you who don’t know I sustain and operate the list as a neighborhood service and have done so since…, well since the beginning.)

DDOT’s plans for the bike lanes, parking and crosswalks and other related questions have generated a lot of impassioned discussion. As a resident of the 100 block of Ky SE I am as concerned as anyone else is about what is going on, the seeming lack of information and the lack of a response from DDOT to questions and suggestions that were raised on the Jan 6 Zoom call. The fact that the issues are complex and interrelated results in many points of view and some heated discussion. That’s fine.

That said, I don’t think it is appropriate to literally demand answers from any neighbor who coincidentally is employed at DDOT, as has recently occurred. All of us on this list, with only 2 exceptions that I know of, are subscribed as neighbors and residents, not in any official capacity. The exceptions are our ANC rep Steve Holtzman and Councilman Charles Allen. It’s one thing to exchange points of view, question what is happening, complain about, or be grateful for services, and demand to know what is going on. It’s another thing, in my opinion, to direct those demands to specific persons who are not on this list in an official capacity. For that, contact either DDOT directly or your elected representatives who are on this list.

Let’s let neighbors be neighbors. In the meantime, let the debate roll on.

Thank you,
Town Crier, aka Dr. Wo
