[Lincolnparkdc] Mr. Trump, tear down this fence

Breaking news:


The National Park Service will be taking down the fencing around the
Freedom Memorial and the Mary McLeod Bethune statues tomorrow at 9 am. The
record of determination, issued on July 1, was issued to protect the
Freedom Memorial from potential vandalism and the Bethune statue from
incidental damage, extended the fencing until September 16, 2020.



Once the fencing comes down, the landscaping surrounding the statues will
be cared for as well. Brian Joyner, acting deputy superintendent for
National Capital Parks--East, tells me, "There will be continued U.S. Park
Police presence and increased engagement from NPS rangers, as we dialogue
with the community about the history and the future of the Freedom
Memorial."
