This morning someone ripped a large branch from one of the chestnut trees
in the northeast corner of Lincoln Park. Doing this dramatically
jeopardizes the health of the tree. It introduces opportunity for disease
and accelerates its demise dramatically. It's great that people harvest the
chestnuts at this time but it's not good to 'kill the goose that laid the
golden egg'.
If you are concerned about the health and maintenance of the trees and are
willing to, please send an immediate email asking for an arborist from the
National Park Service to come look at the trees. The NPS contacts that I
have listed (hopefully still active) are:
1. Douglas Carr (e) douglas_carr at nps.gov
2. Mark Adamchik (e) mark_adamchik at nps.gov
3. James Sledge (e) james_sledge at nps.gov
Again, the chestnut trees located in the northeast corner of Lincoln Park,
a federal park.
Thank you,
Mark Grace
