[Lincolnparkdc] Any experience with lead in water pipes abatement?

I believe many houses in the Hill area still have lead feeder connections
to the water mains. There is a DC Water website where you can check your
connection type but it may just be listed as "unknown".
If you can see the main shutoff valve coming into your home, if it is
lead, there will be a bulge that about doubles the dimensions of the pipe
for about three inches as the lead transitions to the interior water pipe
material.
DC will replace the entire feeder pipe including the shutoff valve for
free, in some cases. Technically you own the last piece of the connection
but there are some city funds available for the last piece.
They did it for our house on 11th St. with in the last year. This was
triggered by their replacing the water meter out under the sidewalk which
damaged the connecting pipe. So the whole replacement process was done
immediately without delay.
I am not sure what the process or delays would be if there is not some kind
of issue or problem with the existing outside connection.
I would be hesitant to pull a copper liner pipe through an existing lead
pipe as it reduces the effective pipe diameter and may not go all the way
to the main street line. I believe when DC Water replaces a feeder line
they will use 1 inch copper all the way to the street water main.
Below is what a lead feeder connection looks like. The bulge is the lead to
other metal transition.
