Hi,

For those of you on the north side of the park near Maury, I just wanted to
alert you to a proposed plan to change the parking situation.

The school would like to reduce its current parking lot and expand its
outdoor play space into that area. This is troubling for a number of
reasons - in particular the construction at Maury was completed less than a
year ago and during that planning, the community agreed to the current
balance of parking, outdoor and indoor school space. This plan has been in
place for less than a year and is now being changed, at potential
significant cost to taxpayers.

There are 8 parking spots on 12th place that have been marked parking for
DCPS officials only during the school day for less than a year. Prior to
the construction at Maury, no parking was allowed in these spots during the
school day. With the reconfigured school entrances, rather than allow
residents to park in them now, these would be reserved for teachers during
the day. This is unnecessary -- the parking lot as currently configured
provides the required parking for school staff.

I wrote to our ANC commissioner Amber Gove (amberanc6a at gmail.com) opposing
this change and asking that these spots revert to residential parking,
given the impending decrease in available spots because of changes to the
intersection of 13th, Tennessee and Constitution, the addition of even more
flex posts/pylons and the bike lanes.

The zoning proposal is available at
https://app.dcoz.dc.gov/CaseReport/CaseReportPage.aspx?case_id=20323

If you would like to see an increase, rather than a decrease in
neighborhood parking spots, please write to oppose this change and ask that
these spots be returned to Zone 6 residential parking spaces.

Thank you,
Hannah Bergman
