I'm resending the link John sent in an email earlier today because mine was buried in the buzz of today's emails. If nothing else, scroll through the report to see photos of Advisory Bike Lanes that are operational in 10 communities (including Alexandria, Va).  None have pylons.  Not to say there are none.  Just none in these photographs.  Lots of helpful information too.
