Friends,
Throughout Washington, the caronavirus has impacted many of our neighbors who:

< Live paycheck to paycheck, are unemployed, and/or reside in public housing;

< Must cope emotionally and financially with layoffs and diminished work hours;

< Are under pressure to manage their children’s remote education often without the necessary hardware and internet access; and

< Must navigate the unemployment and public benefits system while facing constantly changing realities.

< Are elderly or have compromised immune systems and cannot leave home to get necessities.

The D.C. government has offered what it can, but it’s not enough for everyone to survive this crisis.

THE ANSWER:

To address these challenges, the newly-established DC Mutual Aid Network is distributing food and supplies to thousands of residents across the city. Organized on a Ward-by-Ward basis, the Network collects donations at neighborhood hubs, uses monetary contributions to buy additional necessities, and relies on grassroots organizers to ensure these necessities reach neighbors in need.

The Ward 6 Mutual Aid Team comprises local community organizations including Serve Your City, the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, Momma's Safe Haven, Brothas Huddle, and other hard-working, credible messengers.

YOU CAN HELP BY:

1. CONTRIBUTING food and cleaning supplies, such as fruits and vegetables, bread, toilet paper, sandwich meats, snacks, bottled water, frozen meats, potatoes, rice, hot dogs, buns, diapers, pull-ups, tampons/pads, wipes, bleach, rubbing alcohol, gloves....plus items to keep kids busy at home 24/7 <file:///x-apple-data-detectors/::0>, e.g., workbooks, art supplies, games, decks of cards.

2. DONATING devices like laptops and tablets that are in working order. Delete personal data, but keeping Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer installed, will help students.

3. DROPPING OFF GOODS at your local hub, Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 9 AM to 9 PM, 545 7th St. SE. <file:///x-apple-data-detectors/::2>
    - additional drop off sites in SW, Shaw, NOMA, Navy Yard, and Mount Vernon coming soon.

4. SUPPORTING FINANCIALLY - Serve Your City is functioning at the fiduciary 501(c)(3) tax-deductible sponsor for this Ward 6 network. For more information, go to: https://www.serveyourcitydc.org/ <https://www.serveyourcitydc.org/>. Funds will be used to purchase food and other household necessities, wifi, and devices. Please designate your contribution for: Mutual Aid - food/cleaning, or Mutual Aid - WiFi/devices.

Thanks so much for building community with us.
