[Lincolnparkdc] Ken Burns on monuments

Thank you, very interesting. As far the Emancipation memorial is concerned,
I think we should be careful not to conflate its controversy with that
surrounding confederate monuments. These are regional glorifications of a
traitorous, slave holding regime, pure propaganda for a debunked “lost
cause” that most of the rest of country viewed as such even at the time.
The memorial in Lincoln park is a national monument to a positive if
imperfect national step on the road to equality. For all our differing
views, I hope people keep that distinction in mind.
