I do have to say, we have had an open investigation ongoing for a registered package. The current investigation started November 6, 2019. It was sent in October and they automatically closed the October searches (two times) after 4 days without notifying us. We had to keep calling to get a status and it’s only when we complained and asked how they could closed it without any reason or resolution. a wonderful postal worker agreed and engaged the postal consumer affairs office and created the current case.
Since we were not expecting this letter we don’t know who it’s from and they can’t tell us. Hope it’s not a notice we won the lottery or inherited money from a stranger.
We get a monthly email update saying they still have not found it but are still looking for it. I received an update just this past week.
At some point they should run out of places to look and will close out the case. I’m just not sure, given the time spent so far and places they have looked when this will happen. There’s no details provided - like we’ve searched all of DC, MD and VA and are now looking at the other 48 states.
Until then, have faith. There are some dedicated postal workers who will help you.

I’d suggest the USPS inspector general hotline: https://www.uspsoig.gov/form/file-online-complaint
And the Postal Inspection Service: https://www.uspis.gov/report/

We’ve also had two greeting cards with gift cards in them never show up. I will file a complaint as well. Do we know the best route to filing a complaint so we make the most impact?
Thanks, Kjersten

Neighbors,
I know many of us have had recurring problems with USPS delivery. This week we didn’t receive mail most days. We’ve had at least 4 personal greeting cards containing gift cards and one rebate Visa card that have never showed up. We know that a couple of the cards were used, which leads us to believe that someone who works for the Postal Service is actively screening and stealing mail before delivery.
Have others had similar issues? Usually mail will just take long to be delivered but eventually shows up.
We’ve cautioned family against sending anything of value via mail, but that doesn’t cover the range of people and businesses that send things of value in the mail.
I’ll be filing a complaint with USPS to request an investigation and would encourage others to also report any missing items of value.
