Dear Representative Norton, Councilman Allen and Commissioner Soderman

I am writing to request your assistance in obtaining a hold on the National
Park Service utilizing a highly poisonous neurotoxin on or about February
29, to kill rats in Lincoln Park.

One of our neighbors, Karen Cohen who arranged with the National Parks
Service for folks to take over planting the urns in Lincoln Park, reported
that she was informed that a contractor has been hired to use a poisonous
neurotoxin poison in the urns to kill rats on or about February 29.  She
was reportedly warned that the poison would remain toxic for over 100 days.

Lincoln Park is used by children, dogs, and adults on a daily basis.  The
urns are in close proximity to where children play, dogs and their owners
congregate daily, and of course to urban gardeners who regularly keep up
the urns during the spring and summer.  The urns will leak toxic dirt
during the year which children handle and dogs trample through.  And
gardeners planting in the urns will also be exposed to this poison.  *Adequate
assurance is due to those who use the park that they are not in danger as a
result of proximity to this poison*.

Before the contractor is permitted to utilize this kind of long term toxic
poison, which clearly endangers residents who use the park, I am asking
that the poisoning be withheld until it is clear that residents, children
and dogs are not endangered and that residents be informed.  Neighbors are
particularly concerned that the reported 100 days of toxicity is
unacceptable since there may be nothing we can do to protect our selves,
children, and dogs.

I am therefore asking that you assist in ensuring the Park Service not go
forward with this poison until we are assured that it is not dangerous to
ourselves, children and dogs.  In addition local physicians, pediatricians,
and veterinarians should be alerted to the of the use of this toxin.
