[Lincolnparkdc] 12th St and East Capitol St SE crosswalk into Lincoln Park

Hi Eli,
Thank you for initiating this traffic-pedestrian hazard for a DDOT assessment. Regarding the traffic speed leading up to the crosswalk at 12th SE, I would like to propose that DDOT create a series of speed bumps to not only slow traffic but to deter the big commercial semi trucks (and the Waze apps and google maps directing them) from coming up 11th to East Capitol. Also there should be weight limits to protect our historic houses from these enormously heavy 53' boxcars that shake our houses and endanger pedestrian safety.
Also, if they lengthened the red light at 11th to allow pedestrians extra time to cross from the dry cleaners, North, into Lincoln park, that delay in traffic would also allow time for pedestrians to cross at 12th as well. Or, maybe they could do a simultaneous all-corner pedestrian X-crossing / traffic delay at the 11th & N. Carolina & E. Capitol intersection which would allow 12th St. pedestrians to cross as well. They do this at some busy intersections downtown.
Just some suggestions. I hope that when the assessment is completed, we could convene a meeting with DDOT so they could present their findings to the neighbors and hear their proposals to fix the situation. I'm copying Steve Hagendorrn, our ANC Commissioner, to bring him into the loop.

Subject: [Lincolnparkdc] 12th St and East Capitol St SE crosswalk into Lincoln Park

Good Morning Neighbors and Happy Thanksgiving,
I am currently in the process of requesting the DC Department of Transportation conduct a Traffic Safety Assessment for the crosswalk at the intersection of 12th St and East Capitol St SE, crossing into the southside of Lincoln Park. I've only been living in the neighborhood for a little over a year, but I go to the park everyday and regularly cars zoom by as I attempt to cross the street safely. As a driver, I always come to a stop and turn on my alert lights to warn other drivers as pedestrians cross, however, I understand that people who do not live in the neighborhood may not be as aware of the safety problem associated with this crosswalk.
Before submitting the application I just wanted to reach out and hear from my neighbors, most of whom have lived in the neighborhood for many more years.  Please provide any input on experiences with this specific intersection and any formal/informal actions you may have taken (such as requesting a Traffic Safety Assessment and the subsequent results).
Note: Please refrain from discussing other dangerous intersections or problems with the proposed pylons on Kentucky Ave as there are other email threads discussing these important topics.
Please provide an input by Thursday 3 December, so I can submit the application promptly.  Thank you.
Best,
Eli Rosenfeld201 12th St SE_______________________________________________
