[Lincolnparkdc] Adding Bike Lanes to Pennsylvania Avenue likely to divert traffic to Independence Avenue.

 Greetings. 

I want to bring to your attention a proposal to reduce the automobile travel lanes from three to two in order to create a dedicated bicycle lane. I fear this will result in  diverting considerable trafficto Independence Avenue, particular during the PM rush hour. 

This is likely to be of greatest concern to those of you on this list server who live on or near Independence Ave.

Efforts to get answers from the city have been unsuccessful. They were sent a list of 19 questions on July 14 (also attached) which they have NOT answered or even acknowledged receiving. They‘ve also totally ignored a follow up request sent on August 21.

This includes ignoring requests to see a traffic study on where the traffic is expected to divert and why the requirement to consider the“No Build“ option was rejected without any apparent documentation or supporting rationale. At this point I can only conclude to provide this information, would not have supported creating the bike lanes and therefore chose to not share it. 


The ANC6B Transportation Committee will be meeting this Wednesday evening, September 2 to decide whether to endorse this proposal. If they do, the full ANC will likely take it up on September 8.  The meetings will be held virtually. I urge you to participate or send your comments in advance to the chairman of ANC Transportation Committee, Kirsten Oldenberg at 6b04 at anc.dc.gov.
