Steve Holtzman has been very helpful in moving this matter forward with the
DC Department of Transportation. We have submitted a written statement
indicating that the pothole is a significant safety hazard to any driver
and any truck using the alley. We have provided 6 photographs of the
pothole which identify its location from both the East/West direction as
well as the direction N/S. Another photo shows its depth after the rain –
we did this by photographing the wheel of a pick up truck with its front
wheel in the pothole and the water up to the tire rim.

Where are we in all of this? The City has told us that it is not likely
that they can do a temporary repair of this pothole using patches because
the pothole is over 6 feet and their patches are unlikely to last very long
without rebuilding the road surface in a more permanent repair. Steve was
told that Slater’s Lane is definitely rated “poor” in their grading system
and that it was on the next round of “Alleypalozza” projects scheduled
between May and September 2019. DOT is currently working on a round which
includes 65 alleys. This round is expected to be completed in May…rain,
however, can delay their planned work program. In June, DCDOT will
announce the list of alleys included in the next round.

Many thanks to Steve for his good efforts....we will stay on top of this.

That’s it for now.
