in our community*

Neighbors,

There have been too many troubling crimes reported in our community over
the past month. From shootings, to robberies, to a car stolen with a child
in it, it's been a troubling stretch for public safety in our community.

As a result, ANC6A has arranged for MPD leadership to attend our next
meeting to discuss these issues with us. That meeting is Thursday,
November 8, 7 pm at Miner Elementary and all neighbors are welcome to join
us. I expect we will have the Commanders for the First District and the
Fifth District both present that evening.

Regarding the two recent homicides on D Street NE, the first homicide was
closed with an arrest, but the second has not been. MPD has suggested that
they believe it was a targeted incidence and not related to the first or a
sign of an ongoing issue.

What can you do? If you and your neighbors do not have exterior security
cameras, the police, the other ANC6A commissioner and I all highly
recommend getting them. Thanks to Councilmember Charles Allen, DC has a
program that essentially reimburses you for the expense and private home
security footage is often the key evidence that determines whether the
police are able to solve crimes like these. More info on the program is
available here.

God willing, there won't be more violent crime in our neighborhood, but if
there is, hopefully our neighborhood can be well-positioned to help solve
those crimes and hold those responsible for them accountable, thanks in
part to a good network of exterior security cameras.

Thanks,
