Neighbors:
Payne Elementary School just launched an exciting project with a local nonprofit that will allow teaches, students, and professional museum staff explore and document the history of the school. The project will result in a permanent museum exhibit at the school. See the e-mail below for more details, but in short.
If either you personally or someone you know has any of the following:
- Old photos and/or Payne Elementary memorabilia;
- Old photos of Hill East (they will go to the Library of Congress and other archives but are looking for personal photos);
- Personal stories to share about the neighborhood and/or school (they will also research the Overbeck HIstory Project records).
Please connect with Jen Harris, who runs the program, at the e-mail below.
Thanks for your help!
Mark Jordan

We are so excited to work with the students at Payne!

| We officially launched at our third school site, Payne Elementary! |
| Two of Payne’s finest, Mrs. Stokes and Ms. Brown, will guide the students as they participate in primary research, visit local archives and museums, interview long-time area residents, hear from guest speakers, and much more! Acting as ambassadors, the students will share their knowledge with the entire school community by visiting classrooms and leading activities for students. |

| By the end of the school year, the students will have gathered enough information to produce a museum-quality exhibit that will remain permanently installed on school grounds. The exhibit will deepen the community’s understanding of the history of the school community, inform and excite prospective families and residents, enhance parent and family engagement, and create engaging learning tools. |
