We have an older nest and a Ring doorbell. Both are capable of retrieving 24/7 video footage. The footage on our nest is available free of charge for 30 days before it’s deleted (unless we download it). There is a tiny annual fee for the cloud space for our Ring doorbell.  We applied for the rebate (which covered the entire cost of the Ring) and it was approved by the city.

I realized I might not have answered the question. Nest makes great, easily installed exterior cameras. Must be plugged in but they are wireless to your home router.  Or your security company could add a front camera too.

This mugging is dreadful!!!!  I went to the ANC6B meeting last month with a neighbor and the police said, everything was fine!  I thought I was the only one whose mouth dropped open.  How are we going to handle this?

I walk home from Eastern Market Metro at least three times a week after 9PM!
What should we do?

Police came by to check our camera but unfortunately it doesn’t extend to that corner. Another reminder to all to install security cameras. City will reimburse the cost. If we all had them we would have caught this on camera.

It’s our responsibility to assist so if you have not got one yet, no time like the present.

Dear Friends,

Last night at about 9:00 pm  my daughter's au pair and her friend were held up at gunpoint right outside my daughter's house, on 12th St. SE just south of Independence, as they were walking home together. The two young women were forced back into the alley beside the house, where they were robbed. The man tried to get their keys and asked where they lived--the quick-witted au pair told him they were just babysitters and didn't live anywhere nearby. But he kept them there for a while.

This is the second incident involving my daughter's family in the last couple of months The first was the mugging of my 10-year-old grandson's friend just north of Lincoln Park as he walked home from school after my grandson parted to come to our house.

Mike and Charles--several weeks ago there was an ANC meeting with the police, I think, to discuss the uptick in crime here. I haven't heard anything. What is happening?
