Dear Friends,

Last night at about 9:00 pm  my daughter's au pair and her friend were held
up at gunpoint right outside my daughter's house, on 12th St. SE just south
of Independence, as they were walking home together. The two young women
were forced back into the alley beside the house, where they were robbed.
The man tried to get their keys and asked where they lived--the
quick-witted au pair told him they were just babysitters and didn't live
anywhere nearby. But he kept them there for a while.

This is the second incident involving my daughter's family in the last
couple of months The first was the mugging of my 10-year-old grandson's
friend just north of Lincoln Park as he walked home from school after my
grandson parted to come to our house.

Mike and Charles--several weeks ago there was an ANC meeting with the
police, I think, to discuss the uptick in crime here. I haven't heard
anything. What is happening?
